MS Office XP (2002) Security Update failures

C

crl3

Office XP security update for Excel failed several times and I assumed I had
somehow corrupted my installation so completely uninstalled the entire office
package and reinstalled. Now the Office XP SP3 update won't install and I am
having trouble with my Access Macros. Several uninstallations and reinstall
does not correct. I once used eraser2k when I had issues with the Office 07
beta uninstallation but the readme.txt says that this does not support
Windows XP. Is there another utility which can help me get a clean
unistallation so I can get Office reloaded. I have used ccleaner but that is
apparently not getting everything.

Thanks for help

You may need to download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to assist you
in cleaning up after Office 2003 and any other redundant office programs.

Thanks for your suggestions. While neither was the complete answer for my
problem they did lead me to a partial solution. I uninstalled Office XP
(2002) then deleted the remaining MS Office directories and files from my
drive. I then removed both HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office from my registry. I followed
this up with a registry cleaner "ccleaner" which seemed to remove quite a bit
of office references. A reboot then reinstallation of Office XP(2002) then I
located a local copy of the service pack 3 which did not seem to want to
download and that installation went smoothly from the local copy that someone
had previously been kind enough to leave on the server. I followed this up
with a full Windows update which reinstalled all of the remaining office
update -- EXCEPT -- I am back to my original problem that the security
update for Excel 2002 - KB936513 fails to download and install. I would be
greatful to anybody that would have an explanation for this. I follow the
links given in windows update but they don't really address a solution.

Thanks again for your time

I have found a solution to my problem. It took some digging but I finally
found on the Microsoft site the actual download for the security update for
Excel 2002 - KB936513. It is at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...3b-d4b0-48fd-9880-73c180570267&displayLang=en
Once I manually downloaded it (which succeded) I was then able to install.
I still don't know why the update wouldn't download via the windows update
but at least I have it installed now.

Thanks again for your assistance
