Missing OneNote CAB file and activation key
There appears to be an enduring issue with MS Office and MS OneNote. M
new Toshiba PC came with MS Works and MS OneNote already pre-installed
The PC also came with a single OS backup CD - containing XP etc. all o
the files on it being compressed.
The XP key was pasted onto the back of the PC.
I also puchased a legal copy of MS Office Pro 2003 for 500 pounds. Thi
came with the usual suite of apps. but sans Front Page which I wante
and OneNote which I hadn't heard of before. The pack contained thre
CDs. The key was stuck to the inside of the box.
The first CD installed OK. The second for SP1 installed OK. But th
third CD for SP2 crashed with a missing file - the OneNote CAB file:
Unfortunately when the SP2 installation crashed it then refused t
complete the process. So I am assuming that updates for some of th
Office apps. were not completed. So much for 'pro' s/w costing 50
quid.
Meanwhile I have registered and activated the Office suite by phon
except for OneNote. Whenever I try and start this up it demands a key
The XP key doesn't work. The Office 2003 key doesn't work. So basicall
OneNote doesn't work.
Now bearing in mind that we are now in 2006, MS Office 2003 is a ta
out-of-date - YET THE MISSING CAB FILE FOR ONENOTE IS STILL CAUSIN
PROBLEMS. And the activation key issue endures. These two problems ar
wasting an inordinate amount of my time, and also many thousands o
other consumers' time, in trying to get solutions.
Obviously sorting this out is not a priority for MS. Yet MS (via Joh
Lewis) was quite happy to take my money.
However I have found a solution. Life is too short to waste on buggy
poorly designed and badly tested applications. I've had better luc
with free junk apps from computer magazine CDs.
So I've simply deleted OneNote from my PC. Simple and effective. Now
really am going to have a good day
