MS Outlook 2000 hangs when exiting

T

Todd Hayden

Good Morning All.

For a handful of users MS Outlook 2000 hangs indefinitely when they close,
"Exit" or "Exit and Log Off" from MS Outlook 2000. The rest of the computer
is fine i.e. doesn't hang. It is user specific and not computer specific. Our
AV protection realtime scanner has been set to exclude the OUTLOOK.EXE
process. Issue started appearing recently, perhaps because of a recent
windows update.

Using MS Outllook 2000 SR-1 with MS Exchange Server 2000 with SP3.
Users are roaming profiles.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
Does anyone know how to fix it?
Does anyone have any ideas?

Kind Regards
Todd Hayden

Some common reasons why Outlook will not shut down completely when you click
either the X or Exit:

1. PDA synchronization software with your PDA in the cradle.
2. WinFax Pro (especially 10.02 in Outlook 2003) - contact their support
for an alleged fix.
3. Franklin-Cover Plan Plus!
4. COM Add-ins.
5. Mail reminder add-ins that keep a stub of Outlook open in the background
to check for new mail and fire reminders.
6. Anti-virus/firewall programs that are set to scan incoming and outgoing
mail.

I have this issue coming up with all flavors Outlook (2000, XP, 2003).
You can clean exit by going to the Task Manager and clslose all Outlook
processes, or the is a freeware application called KNOCKOUT in zip file that
you can extract to the affected PC desktop. Knockout will allow you to
clean-close both Outlook (all flavors) and Office.
I've been using Knockout and it works.
