MS Outlook 2002 crashing on XP sp2 HP ze4900 laptop

Scott Wright

This problem started yesterday. I was trying to save an email that was saved
in my Outlook today [Personal Folders] to a folder in My documents. When I
clicked on a subfolder to open up that folder so I could save it in there,
Outlook froze and crashed.

I also tried to forward an email, and when I clicked on Attach file to that
email it also froze and crashed.

I just took off Norton System Works.
I tried the following:
1. start / control panels / addremove program / outlook / detect and repair
2. Help / detect and repair

And then I try and do the two formentioned things and still freezes and
crashes.

Is there away I can remove outlook and reinstall it w/o loosing all my mail
and contacts data?

Or do you have a solution on what the problem of my freezing and crashing.

my email: (e-mail address removed) or (e-mail address removed)

There's a recent critical update that has been causing problems like this in
Windows XP SP2 due to conflicts with HP and Nvidia software.

Do you have an HP Share-to-Web Upload folder? If so, does the system hang when
you click on it?

Just to be sure, you may want to remove the Icon from the Desktop, restart your
system and check to see if your problems with Outlook still exist. If no change,
then you can restore the Desktop Icon.

Here's the procedure to remove and restore it:

Scott,

Here's some supplemental info, since I have only offered you solutions that
worked for me.

Peruse this MS KB article:

You may experience problems in Windows Explorer or in the Windows shell after
you install security update MS06-015
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165

I tried the registry fix as per the above article, but it didn't fix the
problems I was having. My problems were resolved only after I removed the
Desktop Icon. You may need to add the registry fix to your system to see
results.

If you don't want to mess with the registry, here's a link that offers a vbs
fix:
