MS Outlook 2003 error

I have just bought IBM Thinkpad X61S. In that there was a trial version of
Office 2007 which I uninstalled and installed Office 2003 instead. All other
programs are working fine except for Outlook.

I don’t know what the problem is, but every time I receive or send mail, it
takes so long to process and outlook freezes (hangs up). For instance, when I
receive mail, the mail shows in my inbox, but in the send receive details, it
shows for instance, receiving 55KB of 57KB and gets stuck. Then I have to
force exit the program and when I reopen the Outlook the mail is there in the
inbox as received. I have rules for sending the mail to its designated folder
and sometimes it works sometimes it does not.

Similarly, when I write mail and press the send button, it takes ages to
send and the whole thing freezes and takes time. But during this entire
process, other programs work just fine. For instance, after I finish writing
a mail and press the ‘send’ button, it will take a long time to send and
Outlook just freezes till the message is sent.

Please help and let me know what I should do.

If you have a virus scanner that integrates with Outlook, disable this
integration and try again.

I am no computer genious and therefore, would appreciate it if you could
explain this in laymans terms. I just installed Norton Internet Security 2008
about 3 days back but the problem was there even before the virus scanner was
installed. Thanks once again

Hi,
Double click on the Norton anti-virus icon in the toolbar ( right botton
cornor)
outlook will be usually slow when you use the same profile of previous version. All the settings, like rules and views settings will not work at its best.
create a new profile ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918/en-us)
use the above link.

I just noticed that the size of my .PST file is more than 550,000KB. Could
this be the reason for the problem I am facing? If yes, how do I go about
solving this problem without losing my mails as these are all very important
mails?

No, that size is not a problem.

Can someone pls give me a simple answer on how to solve this problem. I tried
uninstalling MO and reinstalled it again, but the problem still persists.

Thanks

before I uninstalled my MO 2003, I had backed up my .PST file. However, after
I reinstall the MO 2003, this .PST file itself loads in my Outlook without me
doing anything at all. How is this possible?

Because uninstalling does not remove your Outlook data or Outlook profile.
