MS outlook vs pocket outlook - reminders -

Hello:

I hope someone can help me with this. I have been out of the loop on pocket
pc's etc. I bought a PDA about 8 years ago however it could not enter
reminders for tasks like regular outlook could and therefore I ceased using
it. I am looking to buy a new one and potentially use MObile OUlook but i
need to know if this shortcoming has been fixed. This is what I need.

Regular MS Outlook had a wonderful feature that Pocket OUtlook did not. IN
regular OUtlook I could set reminders for an event x days prior to the event
and it would show up daily in my to do list.

SO say there was a birthday on sep 27th. i COULD THEN SET A REMINDER ON SEPT
15TH to buy a birthday present

THEN IN MY TO DO LIST 'buy birthday gift' WOULD SHOW up every day from the
15th forward to the 27th

The only way to do this with pocket outlook was to actually go in and set a
reminder for every day - thsi simply was not reasonable

so will mobil outlook allow one to enter a reminder x day prior to an event
and have it show up every day in the to do list ?

You should ask this in the pocket pc group - pocket outlook has nothing to
do with Outlook, except the name.

Outlook versions prior to Outlook 2007 do not have a "To Do" list, so what you
describe is inaccurate. To what are you actrually referring?

That doesn't describe any Outlook behavior I've seen. Reminders do not show
on any "To Do" list. Tasks and Calendar events do, however, but adding a
reminder to a calendar event does not automatically create a task. You can
create a reminder on a birthday and have it remind you 12 days in advance, but
in order for the reminder to reappear each day, you must manually snooze it
for 24 hours. Reminders are pop-up items. They don't display all the time.
Some calendar or task views allow you to see what entries have reminders
associated with them, but that's not what you're describing.

What you describe is the creation of a task, I believe. That will show every
day both in Outlook and in Pocket Outlook, the former on the Outlook Today
pane and the latter on the Today screen. It don't give you a reminder every
day, though.

Neither Outlook on a PC nor on a PDA have this ability. They both always
have.had calendar events and tasks, however, that behave in similar fashion to
each other.

Hi Brian

Thanks for the info Yes what I meant to say was the task list ( I was
actually using a 1997 version!!) IN 1997 version I could defintely set a
task and set a 'reminder' to show for x days prior to the event. As I
indicated what was so great about this is in my daily task list it would show
"Buy Birthday present" for two weeks or x days prior to event - just what I
needed - and I could do this within the task setup . Perhaps I am using the
term 'reminde'r wrong.

What would happen is the task would show up in my task list for that day and
every day two weeks prior to the event .

So perhaps the way I should ask the ? is IF I set a task for oct 16th can
I have it show up every day in my task list for x days prior to the task
being due?

ANd if so is that possible with pocket outlook ?

That's the default behavior. Tasks that are not complete will show.
