I hope that someone can help with this as I am at a dead end trying to apply
service releases and security patches to client PCs with Access 2002 Runtime
(SP2).
Specifically, we are trying to follow the recommendations in the MS Security
Bulletin MS04-028 to patch Access XP SP2 Runtime on Windows 2000 SP4
servers. The Servers do not have Office XP (or any other Office apps)
installed... just our Access Runtime based application.
There are a number of related downloads for both Office XP and Access XP
Runtime but all fail to install with the same error message "The expected
version of the product was not found on your system". The Fullfile downloads
fail with the same message.
Attempts to update via the Office XP download center also fail. It detects
that updates are available but they fail to install with no specific error
message.
We have built a new Win2K SP4 sever with nothing other than our Access
Runtime app installed and get exactly the same behaviour.
I should add that there is no Administrative Installation Point, we are
simply trying to patch the client system directly as per KB827430 (Access
2002 Runtime Security Patch) & KB813617 (Access 2002 Runtime Update).
We have corporate customers using our app that have no alternative but to
patch against this threat but currently I can see no way forward to achieve
this.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.
TIA
