MS Performance Point 2007 replacing MS Project Portfolio Svr??

Does anyone know if MS Performance Point 2007 is going to replace MS Project
Portfolio Server? They seem to have similar functionality. I don't want to
continue down this arduous road of installing Portfolio server if there is a
new release that has better documentation and support coming along.
I am having so many problems installing Portfolio server, Does everyone
expereince many problems setting this up?
Any info on MS Performance Point 2007 would be appreciated.

thanks

My personal interpretation of the situation is that they are both quite
separate tools.
Certainly both deal with portfolios, but I think that Portfolio server with
it's ties to Microsoft Project is moving more towards portfolio management.
By this I mean it has elements that Project server lacks such as project
intake, evaluation and approval workflows.

Performance point seems to be targetted towards portfolio reporting. They do
share that functionality, but Performance point allows for a much greater
scope of data sources.

I believe that both products came in from "outside" of Microsoft and I'm
fairly certain that Microsoft is working to integrate them better with their
core products and technologies (ie: Office, Sharepoint, SQL Server etc.).
Because of that I'd expect that they have significant changes in them as
they move along. I don't think either of them are particularly well
documented or supported so going from one to the the other is probably not
going to help. Implementing either of them is not easy and I'd recommend you
find someone who has been through it before to help.
