MS Photo Editor is very picky

I have W98SE and Office 97 (yeah, still do)

I have run into a number of image extensions that Photo Editor will not
open. This includes some jpg's. In this particular case, my daughter's Sony
digital camera's images are jpg but PE will not open them up. Can someone
enlighten me as to why, and if there is anything that I can do about it?

Adobe Elements did open them up, BTW. But, I like PE a lot for its
simplicity.

Also, is there anyway to increase the file size that PE is able to handle?
Large files are rejected as too large.

Thanks,

Hi Larry,

MS Office's graphics filters don't handle 'progressive' JPEGs.
(a different internal storage format). Are you referring to
file size or graphics size x # of colors. There are some limitations
in Photo Editor, first introduced as a Dr. Halo clone on Windows 3.1 :)

You might want to take a look at http://www.irfanview.com for
opening/resizing to something that Photo Editor can use.
(Donationware for personal use).

Hi Bob, Actually, I am referring to both! (file size or graphics size x #
of colors).

No way to "pump up" Photo Editor?
