MS PhotoEd not recognizing .jpg, .gif

New computer (Compaq SR1220nx); installed Office XP pro, everything is
swell. EXCEPT, PhotoEditor - photoed.exe - does not recognize or open jpg
or gif files. Will only work with .bmp, .tif, and .pcx.

In file associations it's the default for .jpg and .gif, etc, but doesn't
work. have used it on all my other machines just fine, including an
identical Compaq machine. Any ideas? Thanks!
