MS Project 2000, exporting/importing information to excel

Lynn

Background

The company has 70 employees with approximately 6 projects that will
need to be scheduled and tracked.
I have looked as some outside applications to link MS Project to a
timesheet application. The timeframe and expense has put that
decision on hold. Therefore, I am looking for a quicker solution with
less expense.

We are currently using MS Project 2000

1. In the Gantt Chart view, tasks can be organized by summary with
subtasks with drop down features.

Example:

DMS Project
1. 8895
1.1 QA
1.1.1 Variance Review
1.1.2 Script Writing

I would like to export the data to an excel spreadsheet so that
resources can bank time against certain days and then feed that
information back into project.

Example:
Project Variance Department Sub Task Resource 1/3/2004
1/4/2004
DMS 8895 QA Variance Review Sue

There are export/import maps but I am uncertain how to create them by
maintaining the levels. One of the limitations I am finding of MS
Project 2000 is that I am unable to export the information about the
resource, the tasks with the subsequent levels and the time frame. Do
you have any recommendations?

I am currently using MS Project 2000, would an upgrade help this
problem? Can you export levels using MS Project 2003? Is Project
Central a good option? Is there a better way to organize my
information while keeping the hierarchy?

Thank you for considering my questions. I greatly appreciate any
information you can provide.

Sincerely,

Lynn

Why don't you just use the Workgroup feature. It works
great. It actually send an e-mail to the resource with a
list of thie task assignemnts. They enter their actual
hours and send it back. All you have to do is open their
e-mail and apply it to the project plan. Works like a
charm for me. You just need to set it up properly, to
much detail to get into here, but this is a VERY effective
way of doing this.
