MS Project 2003 crashes when dropdown is selected

I am running Project 2003 w/ Office SP3 on Windows XP SP2. While displaying
the tracking gannt chart, I split the screen so the gannt is in the top and
the task details are in the bottom pane. In my task details, I have Resource
Name and Predecessor Name displayed. If I select either the Resource Name or
the Predecssor Name so that they drop down to show all Resources or
Predecessors, Project crashes. So far I have repaired, reinstalled, and
uninstalled and reinstalled project.

Anyone have an idea?

Not sure about w/o office sp3. Happens on all project files I've opened.
Other people in my office also have this problem yet others do not.

So can you re-install Project and only apply SP1, test, then SP2 and test
again? SP3 is the only recent change so I'm thinking it's time to eliminate
what it isn't if there is nothing obvious.

Is there anything in common with people for whom it does or doesn't work,
profile? running as admin on local PC?

I appreciate your ideas, it will take some time since I need to uninstall all
of office 2003 to cleanse my system of office 2003 sp3. The problem is that
I have a bunch of work that can't wait for the interuption this task
requires. You probably know how it goes.

The systems that fail, are HP Laptops, and the systems that work, are Dell
Laptops. I think the difference is the image that was used to initialize
these systems must have some configuration problem or a driver that is not
compatible with MSP.

What I find interesting is if you search for "crash" in this topic, you will
find a simillar problem described (both MSP 2003 and 2007) by someone with an
HP nw8440. No solution was described.

This problem was fixed by uninstalling the HP Credential Manager software
using add/remove programs.
