MS PROJECT 2003: Multiple lines

K

KIRK THOMPSON

Thanks to "John" for helping solved my first question.
This is a little different.
How can I put a 2nd (or 3rd) "line of text" in one task line (e.g., "line
6")? If you type "make purple widget" in task line 6 and want to add "make
blue widget" IN THE SAME TASK "LINE"--i.e., two "tasks" in one task line--how
is this accomplished? I know how to add another bar via Bar Styles, but can't
figure out how to add the "2nd" line of text.
Thanks!!

You can't really add another line of text.
It isn't really clear to me what you are asking, but if you want to display
additional text in the gantt chart area, you would go to format menu /
barstyles and click on the text tab - there you have a few places you can
have text. If you want two pieces of text in the same location you can use a
custom field formula and concatenate the two pieces of info and then set the
bar to display that.
For example if I wanted to show the Task name and duration to the right of
the bar I'd use the text1 field or another similar field and the formula

[Name] & " - " & [Duration]

then set the bar to display the text1 field.

You can also format the rolled up bars so that they display information
about the tasks which are rolled up, but it doesn't seem like that is what
you are asking.

The general rule in project is one task = one line.

Jack,
I tried the concatenation w/o success.

How can I format the rolled up bars so that they display information about
the tasks which are rolled up? This may be a solution...

Thanks!!

Hi,
When you add Text to a rolled up bar the text comes from the rolled up task.

Jan,

Your information was not clear. I do not want to get the "rolled up look"
with some symbols in the roll up. Instead, each line in one single task has
it's own info.

Hi,

I'm soory but then your question was totally unclear as well.
I litterally answered the question:
"How can I format the rolled up bars so that they display information about
the tasks which are rolled up"
There is no answer but mine to that question.

OTOH, I don't understand your question (or remark) in the latest post,
sorry.

I tried that but it's not what I am looking for.

Sorry I wasn't clear.
