Hi Everyone!

I was looking for MS Project2007 training in London. Although there are plenty on them happy.com microsftraining.net, www.mousetraining.co.u
I am not sure which one would be good for me! Has anyone got any idea what questions I should be asking training providers to ensure I get value for my money?

Hi Everyone!

I was looking for MS Project2007 training in London. Although there are plenty on them happy.com microsftraining.net, www.mousetraining.co.uk

I use two questions of prospective MP trainers:
1) What is the definition of Total Slack? (The amount of time that a task
can slip without effecting the end date of the project). If they don't know
this, they don't know CPM scheduling and can't know how to properly use
Project.

2) What feature of Project is it best to turn off to get an effective
schedule? (The Autolink Tasks feature) This "feature" automatically creates
links between certain kinds of tasks, without warning the user. This will
create bogus links in many cases that you have to hunt down and remove to
get a workable schedule.

If they don't know these two things about Project, they don't fully
understand it.

Another question to consider asking: "What takes precedence in project
scheduling... predecessors/successors or a date constraint?"

What you are fishing for: date constraints override predecessor logic. This
can produce a problem -- Task A, Task B and Task C are linked serially as
Finish To Start. Assuming Task C has a constraint "Start No Later Than
1/1/2010"... then Task C will start on 1/1/2010 even if its immediate
predecessor Task B does not finish until February 7, 2010. That produces a
problem, right? If they can't explain that date constraints containing the
words "Must" or "No Later Than" are immediate causes for problems, then move
along to someone else.

Although I like Question 2 from the other post, it is a bit subjective. I
have that feature turned off and it would not even dawn on me that is what he
was fishing for.
