MS project and primavera

Lots of dollars!!!

Primavera can do some things that Project can't and Project can do things
Primavera can't.

Project is by the cheaper (try costing the licenses and training for
Primavera. 98% of users will meet all their needs with Project and because
they are familiar with office pick Project up much quicker and be more
comfortable.

Project is by far the more popular and it's therefore much easier to find
people who know Project.

For functionality see the sites of Microsoft and Primavera.

That's what you think!
I looked and looked and never found any serious feature description on the
Primavera site
I posted on that on a general PM newsgroup and I got the Primavera believers
all over me.
You don't look for Primavera features, it does all you can imagine and more,
and only poor Project users would even think of comparing the two...

P3 allows for things like more complex analysis of the task logic. The
filtering and sorting of tasks is a big deal in multi- thousand line
schedules. P3 is more flexible and less intuitive.
I was a P3 guy and hated Project when I made the change and now can not
imagine why I would want to work with software that is so funky to use.
Project is bad enough.

Unless you are on a HUGE project I would suggest staying with MS Project

Now that I think about it I guess “Filtering†is not the right term. With P3
you can easily see all of the related tasks Predecessors and Successors of
any task. This makes HUGE projects easier look at. In Project you would have
to jump though a bunch of hoops to get the same view.

Not really. You just use my trace macro.

I understand that the next version of Project is somewhat improved in this
regard, but we have to wait and see.
