MS Project Experts book, Managing Enterprise Projects

On page 114 of Managing Enterprise Projects (second edition) there is a blurb
that reads "After applying Project server 2003 SP1 the system will
automatically publish project when you save and close an enterprise project".
Did SP2a or SP3 remove this? Not that I would want this feature, I was just
wondering if a later Service pack fixed this because I tested this and it
dosen't work.

This behavior of Project Server 2003 was never a bug that was needing to be
fixed. It was by design because so many PM's were forgetting to publish
their projects after making changes and then saving the project. Failure to
publish the project was leading to projects getting "out of synch" between
the Microsoft Project plan and PWA. When you close the project, the system
does a Collaborate - Publish - Project Plan publishing operation "behind the
scenes" without your knowledge or even permission to do so. That's just the
way it works. Hope this helps.

Dale--
Sorry but one more question on this: We tested this by adding a new
assignment after the initial publish. Saved and closed the file without
using Collaborate publish options. Based on your answer and page 114, I
would expect the new assignment be visible in PWA but it is not.

Please re-read my last answer. The assignment won't show up because it does
only a Collaborate - Publish - Project Plan publishing operation. Team
members will not see their new assignments until you do either Collaborate -
Publish - All Information or Collaborate - Publish - New and Changed
Assignments. Hope this helps.
