How to determine who is the Owner

How to determine who is the Project Owner using MS RPOJECT 2003 interface.?
In other words, I can see who is the Owner using MS Project Web Access in MS
Project Center, clicking on Summary, and it will show in the field name
"Owner", howerver its not the same when someone actually pubslishes the
project file and takes the ownership of the project, then this information
does not get updated.

Is there a way for a Project Administrator to look up this information from
thier Administrator interface ? Or maybe SQL Database Administrator can run a
SQL query on the project tables and retrieve that information ?

Any sugestions, Thanks

First of all, you are mixing terminology without realizing it. The Owner of
the project is the person who initially saves the project in the Project
Server database. The Manager is the first person to publish the project
assignments, using either Collaborate - Publish - All Information or
Collaborate - Publish - New and Changed Assignments. In the Project Server
database, the system does not maintain a Manager for the entire project.
Instead, it keeps a record of who is the Manager of each task (technically,
each assignment), since there can be a different Manager for different sets
of tasks. To determine who is the Manager of each task (and ultimately the
project), refer to the following FAQ:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/ViewTaskManager.htm

Hope this helps.

So, what happens when you republish a project and someone else takes
ownership of the project? MS Project 2003 (Project Server) allows others to
republish and take ownership. Project > Collaborate > Republish
Assignments...a dialog box opens and one of the checkbox selections is for
that person to take owership.

Where would that name go? Shouldn't it overright the original Project Owner?

As for checking Web Access, the project owner that shows out there does not
necessarily match up with who the original owner was. Web Access will only
be helpful if someone manually updates the project owner whenever the project
changes PM hands.

So, what I'm hearing from your answer is that the only time a name is
capture is at the original publication of the project file? So no matter how
many times the project owner may change hands it will ONLY EVER show the
original owner?

Thanks.

When a PM opens another manager's project and republishes the assignments
using the steps you detailed, the system makes the PM the new Manager of the
tasks (and ultimately the project), but DOES NOT make the PM the Owner of
the Project. So, your assumption is wrong. Furthermore, you assumption
about the Owner never changing is also wrong. To change the Owner and/or
the Manager of a project, refer to the following FAQ:

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/Shared Documents/changeprojmgr.htm

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your response, however I'm amazed that the new owner's user id
wouldn't be captured in the SQL database. However, if you say it isn't, I'll
take your word on it.

As for my "assumption" being wrong about the Project Owner not changing via
Web Access...maybe I didn't say it the right way. I am very well aware that
you can MANUALLY change the Project Owner, what I meant was that just because
another PM may take ownership it is not AUTOMATICALLY reflected in Web
Access. Someone must go out and change that information --- as is describe
in the link you provided.

Again, thank you for your help with this question of trying to find out who
the current project owner is.

From your answer it is apparent that I will be unable to find out the
current project owner since Project only captures the original publisher and
will have to rely on the fact that someone will correctly change that
information on the Web Access site and pray that the information is
up-to-date.

Thank you for your time on this topic.

I never said the Owner ID is not captured in the SQL Server database. If
you need a programmatic way to resolve this issue using SQL Server, then I
would suggest you post your question in the
microsoft.public.project.developer newsgroup. I was trying to give you
methods to solve our problem, and your confusion, using the default features
of Project Server. Hope this helps.
