MS Project Locking Up

J

Justin

Hello

Background – Using MS Project 2002 version 10.0.2002.050

For our group we have created 1 Master mpp file with 9 mpp sub files that are inserted into the Master mpp file using a Resource Pool mpp file. Every time I try to open up the master file, or the resource pool file and open up the inserted projects MS Project locks up. Sometimes it will shut you down immediately and proceed to send an error report to Microsoft. Other times it will just lock up and you have to CTRL+ALT+DEL to close MS Project down. I presume the problem is one of two things, but would like to bounce the idea off others also.

1. The resource pool file (1,181 KB) and master file (532 KB) are getting too large.
2. There is some damage between the inserted projects linkage and the master or resource pool file

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks
Justi

Hello Justin,
It looks like a file corruption. Have a look at the FAQ 43 : File Bloat? -
Might be Corruption
http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm

Hope this helps,

There is a "feature" (bug) in 2002 which causes crashing when you have inserted projects but ms does have a patch for this in the knowledgebase (sorry i dont remember link) and also 2003 has this issue fixed

try searching the KB, i remember that this patch came out around june 200

good luc
