MS Project Portfolio Server 2007 Optimizer Matrix view hanging

I am setting up a trial version of MS PPS 2007 for evaluation on a sever and
it has been running well with my client PC with XP /Office 2003 / IE8 system
until last week after 13 PC upgrades when I can no longer work through the
Optimizer without getting the message "updating relations" when looking at
the matrix views after the matrix loads and the chart appears. It is still
possible to view the Business Driver and Project Priorities without issue.
The issue does not seem to appear on someone elses machine which is Vista /
Office 2007 / IE7. I have checked that VBA is still active in Excel and that
the access rights are okay in IE8.

Does anyone know what has caused the issue and how it can be resolved?

The suggestion was made that it may be an issue with SP1 so have ungraded to
SP2 and the problem still exists. Also to rule out an issue with my version
of Office 2003 I have used the "fix" facility in Excel to ensure there are no
broken files.
