MS Project rounding up?

Hello,
I have a strange question.
I am importing data into a ms project workplan. Using a custom map.
It seems like if I import Work less than 8 hrs it will become 8 hrs.
So if task1 has work = 1 it will get imported as work = 8
In the options I have work is entered in hours.

is there some setting for this? or a way to import the correct data,
without MS Project rounding up?

thanks for any help

Project doesn't to my knowledge, round,

Ideas: Do you have units on the the work in entry, e.g. "7 h", or "8 d".
Do you have, in Menu: Tools/Options, a default setting for work units
(can say hours or days there) that may be doing this.

Hello Greg,

What version including service pack are you using? There were some
early problem importing excel data into Project 2007.
Please also give some more details about your custom map.

thanks all

setting "default task type" to "fixed work" corrects this problem.
I am not sure if this is a bad thing to do? or not?

Hi Greg,

I wouldn't say it's a "bad" thing to do. Setting a task as fixed
work means three things:
1. The task will always been effort driven. It is not possible to
have non-effort driven fixed work task types.
2. If you modify the duration of the task -- Project will change
assignment units.
3. If you modify assignment units -- project will change duration.

If it suits your needs (the 3 above) -- not a bad thing at all.
