MS Project Server 2003/SQL Analysis Svcs. 2005???

This issue may have been addressed in other entries, but the posts weren't
specific enough! I'll ask the question directly:

Has ANYONE gotten SQL Analysis Services 2005 to work with PS 2003 so as
to build and view an OLAP cube throught the usual PWA links? If so, what are
the secrets??? My SQL support team has thrown in the towel. They did get an
OVERALL DB conversion from 2000 to 2005(pain!), but Analysis Services is
geting the best of them.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Jackson,
I have, but having read through my client notes there was nothing magic
about it. I did it as part of an MSDE -> SQL2005 migration. The two notes
that I've got that stand out state that you need these on the client

1. msxml6
2. SQLServer2005_ASOLEDB9

Additionally, I referenced
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/921116/

What specific error messages are you getting?

Hi there ,

there are 4 different components you will need, the 2 mentioned and
1.      msxml6
2.      SQLServer2005_ASOLEDB9
3. sqlncli.msi
4. SQLServer2005_BC.msi

I am in the dark on the gory details, as our site (government!) has a
separate, isolated team for SQL Server support. I got a cryptic response to a
Help desk request that said "...PS 2003 just does not have the ability to
share like this..."

I will pass thsi chain up to the team mangement, and see what happens!

Thanks!

After passing on this reponse chain, my tech rep says that our site
implemented "consolidated" SQL Analysis Services servers, and that PS 2003
wants complete control of its Analysis Server. Is this the final word, or is
there still a work-around anyone knows of?

Thanks!

Hi Jackson,

I don't recognise the complete control peice here. I would recommend that
your techie team sits down with a competant Project Partner to see if there
is a work around for the solution.

I am seeking a detailed explanation from the SQL Support team, if it
happens, I'll post it here.

As it is explained to me, our SQL Server team won't allow just anyone to
have "SA" rights on the SQL 2005 Analysis servers, as they serve many
customers, and in order for PS 2003 to build a cube, it needs an account with
SA rights.

PS 2007 doesn't have this problem, but our chances of using PS 2007
BEFORE Project 14 is released are REAL slim, IMHO! :>(

Sigh .....
