Hi,

Is it possible for resources to enter their respective efforts against the
tasks assigned them?

Is it possible to generate metrics such as
Actual effort v/s. planned effort (in man days)
Actual effort for each product in a given product category (monthly,
quaterly basis)
Actual effort for development and maintenance projects (monthly, quaterly)

thanks and regards,

To answer your questions:

1. Team members enter their task progress on the My Tasks page in Project
Web Access, and then submit their progress to the PM for updating into the
Microsoft Project plan.

2. Yes, your PMs can see Work variance in the Microsoft Project plan.

3. Your Project Server administrator can create Data Analysis views to show
Work by product category, however, he/she must first set up a list of
product categories and your PMs must select a product category for every
project.

4. Your Project Server administrator can create Data Analysis views to show
Work by project type, however, he/she must first set up a list of project
types and your PMs must select a project type for every project.

Hope this helps.

By the way, these answers are for Project Server 2007. The answers are the
same for Project Server 2003 on #1 and #2. On #3 and #4, the Project Server
administrator would need to create Portfolio Analyzer views for this
reporting need. Keep in mind, however, that Microsoft discontinues support
of Project Server 2003 later this month. If you are thinking of
implementing Project Server, consider only the 2007 version. Hope this
helps.
