MS Project Server

Hi All

We are currently running MS Project 2003 Standard - approx 20 users, 20
current projects - with a central resource pool. Our section is merging with
another IT dept and they may start to use some of the processes and
procedures which we have developed here. I have been tasked with looking at
how we can improve our resource management procedures with a view to
overallocations, project priorities, forward planning etc. It has been
suggested that Project Server will help in this respect. Is this true?

Does Project Server provide an overall view of resources, what projects they
are working on (and when), where they are over( & under)allocated. Are there
out of the box views, reports etc that provide this. I realise that Project
is a planning tool but does the Enterprise version provide this
functionality. I am looking at this from a resource management point of view
rather than a project planning point of view. I realise this is a bit
general but any comments would be appreciated.

Regards
Mark

Yes, Mark, Project Server does all of the things you listed.

Although all of the features are available "out of the box," there is a
significant amount of planning, configuration, and training that should be
done before deploying the solution. That will help ensure that people use
the system properly and your results are valid.

You should contact me or another Microsoft Certified Partner that
specializes in Project Server to discuss your specific situation. Unless
your organization has a LOT more patience and time than it has money, working
with a Partner is the way to go with Project Server.
