MS Project & Synchronization Problem

J

joj

I have asked this question earlier also but may be i was not able to
elaborate it so that one can understand it . So its goes again here ..

Is a project downloaded/Synchronized using MS Project In a client machine in
PWA by clicking on the open caption or clicking projects in the project
center???? I have done several things to cop up this thing but could not so u
ppl please help me ..
It is described as follows :::

Iam using a client machine and from that machine when i try to open a
project in MS Project Professional 2003 (from project center) it gives the
error " you dont have sufficient priviliges , Network Problems, Database not
accessbile, you need MS Project 2002 or MS Projec 2003, Correct login account
..There is a problem with global enterprise template etc "

But when i open project through Administrator account on the Server where
project server is installed it gives no problem at all .

In client machines MS Project 2003 is installed, i created a login account
in MS Project professional in clients machine in order to log into Project
server using both windows authentication and Project server authentication
..But Still it didnt worked. ( In my opinion there is no need for project
server authentication login account in MS Project) bcoz the client uses a
windows authentication account and client has access to PWA by its windows
account . But by using its windows account in MS Project to Access the
enteprise features or to open a project(s) through MS Project In Project
Server its not working at all.... It is not synchronized too. SO i wanna
know where i m doin wrong what step im missing so please please reply me and
help me .. Thanks in advance

A couple of questions to start

Can your users access and login to PWA using Internet Explorer from
their machine?

If Yes, then it tells me that your Project Server Account that you
created in Project Pro is incorrect. Did you click on the Test
Connection button in the Account Properties?

If No, then it is a network problem. Are your users logged into
the Windows Server Domain?

Is Project Server, WSS and SQL Server installed and configured on one
machine or are they on separate machines?

I must say that much of your writing is difficult to decipher. If I
understand you correctly, and I'm very doubtful that I do, the most
important thing in this case is that you have at least SP1 installed on both
the client and the server, and that you use the same URL to open Project Web
Access in the browser that you use when you create the Project Server
account in the Project client. If these do not match, the system behaves as
you've indicated.

First of all thanks to both of you for replying and i say sorry to Gary L.
Chefetz for not understanding my point clearly( according to Gary) due to my
difficult writing. Im sorry again.
So lets begin now:

I would like to clear one thing that all the clients are using windows
authentication account in order to login to PWA by using Interner Explorer
fom their machines.

Answers for the questios which Rolly Perreaux asked
ANS #1 : Yes, all users can access project server and log into PWA . I
tested the connection it workd absolutely fine . It came up with a successful
message.
ANS #2: All the users/clients are added in the project server ( PWA) with
the windows authentication account and NOT the project server authentication
account. And users have access to windows domain.
ANS #3 : Yes, Project Server,WSS ( infact its Sharepoint Portal Server
[SPS] and WSS is installed In Conjunction with SPS ) and SQL Server is
installed on the same server i.e It is a single server configuration NOTE :
It is the Windows 2003 Server.

When i created a windows base account in MS Project Pofessional 2003 to
loginto Project server and relaunch it . It came up with errors i.e it was
stuck and showing a blank window and not opening MS Project Professional
2003. But when i create a Project server account i was able to open MS
Project Professional 2003 to log into Project Server at clients machine. But
frankly speaking i dont think that i need a project server authenticated
account at clients machine which is already using a windows authentication
account . So where then is the problem lying ?? Untill and unless a Login
Account is not created at client machine [which i think should be a windows
base in Project Professional] how can i access the enterprise features or in
other words it is synchronized. This is the problem which i am facing how can
it be resolved ??? And one thing do i need to publish project as a non-
enterprise in enterprise mode bcoz then im able to synchronize infact i can
open the project using MS Project in Project server which was published as
non- enterprise project . Is it the right way ? Am i doin the right thing ??
Basically whole purpose of this discussion is to get to know how a project is
Synchronized at a clients machine after the clients make changes in the
project using MS Project Professional .It is published back into project
server with the new changes made in it bcause as the project is synchronized
it is downloaded at the clients machine and it becomes locked.

I hope this time im clear in making u people to understand my question.
Thanks

It seems to me that you're missing some fundamental understanding of how
Project and Project Server are supposed to work together. You probably want
to be using enterprise projects, not non-enterprise projects. Further,
you've enormously complicated you installation by putting SharePoint Portal
Server on the same server with Project Server. I hope that you followed the
directions in the following KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;840701

I believe that the problems you're having with Windows authentication are
directly related to your installation. Take a look at the KB article and see
if that doesn't help you get things working, although I firmly believe that
Project Server should never be installed on the same machine with Portal
Server. Installing on the same box as WSS is perfectly acceptable following
Microsoft recommendations for a single server installation.

Your projects should be saved-to and opened from the Project Server
database. You keep talking about synchronization, but there is no such
construct in this environment. There is, however, the construct of
publishing information which makes data viewable to others on the web at the
Project Managers discretion.

Thanks Gary L. Chefetz . The link about which you mentioned in your reply i
have already used that link and done installation according to instructions
mentioned in it . I followed the steps one by one and then did the
installation. So lets see what happens im looking into this problem . But you
were very helpful and i appreciate that . I thank you again and i will mail
if had any more problems . Just one question if you can answer.

How we create separate project areas for different clients who can log
in and access only their project area?

Looking for a quick response .Thanks
