MS PROJECT TIMELINE ISSUE

Hi all,
I have a 3 month's project and I need to use MS Project . But when I make
all the task entries, MS Project gives me a 9 month's timeline instead of the
required 3 months. Is this MS Project default timeline? I have to manually
change each task and input prescise hours and days for each task to override
MS Project unrealistic times applying the resources I have for each task.
Can someone explain the key things I need to do so that I can get MS Project
to use the required 3 months timeline instead of 9 months it is defaulting to.

Hi

Project determines the duration of a project based on the information
provided ... it has no "no default" timeline.

However, it is not really possible to provide a quick check list of all
things you need to do to 'get it right' ... generally, this takes a 2 - 3
day course to explain fully.

Some of the factors which come into play are: the working time of your
project, tasks & resources; the definitions that you're used for duration;
the relationships between the tasks; the number of resources you have; the
nature of the tasks themselves etc ...

So the best thing i can suggest is that you either attend a 2-3 day 'hands
on' project course in your local area. If this is not possible (or even if
it is), Mike Glen has written a series of project tutorials which can be
accessed at www.tinyurl.com/2xbhc, which i would recommend you read through
to see if you can determine why project has taken the inputs you've given it
and come up with a 9 month schedule.

Hope this helps.
