MS Project Unique ID

I have a project plan that I would like to reuse as a starting point for
another project. Is there a way to re-set the Unique ID field so that the
numbers do not get so large? By the time I use the plan for a couple of
projects the id could be 4-5 numbers long.

Thanks!

Save the project as a template then use it as your starting point for other
projects.
When you start a new project from it, the Unique ID should start over from
1.

Hi Jack,

I was pretty surprised by your post and I think it needs some clarification.
Saving as template, then opening and saving as a new project does not reset
Unique IDs I'm afraid. Better is to copy all the tasks (after selecting them
from the ID) and paste them into a blank project.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Jack. I tried that but I must be doing something wrong because it did
not re-number the tasks in the template. Do you have more explicit
instructions?

Thanks Jan. Is there a way to copy and paste and keep the outline formatting?
When I do it they all paste in as level 1 tasks.

Correct. It does not RESET the Unique ID's, but if you have a set of tasks
you always want in the project, they will continue with the same Unique IDs
as the template.
Assuming you make the template first then the tasks will always be starting
from 1.

To reset unique ID's your method is the best.
