My memory plays these days, but I'm sure MSP used to come with a
turorial that took you through making a plan for some mythical
company...or maybe that was Access...?

Is that really your favourite book?

I have not seen any tutorial in MS Project. There are more then 40 templates
there which populate project with tasks specific to some activity, e.g. home
move, new product launch, etc.

Yes, it is my favorite book. On MS Project subject of course! That book is
well structured. So if you have a lack in some area of the sea of features of
MS Project, you can just read some chapter and you are equiped!
