MS-Query Alternative?

Does anyone know of an add-in alternative to connect to ODBC data sources that provides more advanced features than MS-Query?

MS-Query appears to have difficulty dealing with more advanced queries where multiple table joins are required. I want to enable the criteria options, but as soon as you get the message "Query cannot be presented graphically, do you want to continue anyway?" and you select 'yes' to continue, it grey's out the criteria options.
