MS Search Info Gatherer? Turn it off?

"Microsoft Search Gatherer Transaction Log. Format
Version 4.9"

When I am not actively typing, after about 3 minutes,
the hard drive light is on continuously.

Eventually the system crashes.


After running scandisk, fold000x.chk files are
created that have the following phrase inside:

"Microsoft Search Gatherer Transaction Log. Format
Version 4.9"

This problem started after installing Works Suite
2003 p/n x08.82859 purchased at Best Buy.

What is this program?
HOW DO I TURN IT OFF????????????



I have (cnt alt del) "end task"ed on the following and
no effect:
rnaapp
ccapp
ctfmon
systray


I have shut down everything listed (except Explorer)
and this information gatherer is still ripping though my
hard drive.


I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Norton works..
..no effect.

I have run ZoneAlarm firewall...no effect.
(Adversely interacts with Norton but this is a separate
problem)

I have run Ad-Aware...no effect.

I have run scan disk....no effect.


AGAIN WHAT IS THIS SOFTWARE AND HOW DO I TURN IT OFF?

better. Works is not a part of Office.
