MS Visual Basic error at start-up

George

I installed Office 2000 on an XP-machine. When loading
Word a Microsoft Visual Basic Window opens: Compile error
in hidden module: WinFaxPrintAndMerge
I can select "ok" and work with Word but I would like to
resolve this error. I cannot find any reference in MS
Knowledge Base to "WinFaxPrintAndMerge". I'll appreciate
any and all advice.

Suzanne,
Tks for reply. Startup path is empty, rename normal.dot
doesn't help, Webpage.dll is only Word Add-in. I scanned
my system multiple times for viruses, none are found.
Any other suggestion?

Have you disabled the Norton Office Plug-in? There is a conflict between it
and WinFax (ironic since they're both Symantec apps).

Norton Office Plug-in is active. I knew virus-scan
occured when Word loads but it took me a while to verify
the status. I didn't activate Outlook could this be a
cause?

You need to disable the plug-in.

Actually, disabling the Norton Office Plug-in does not compromise your virus
protection at all provided you leave Auto-Protect enabled, and it saves you
from myriad other delays and conflicts. In this case, it would appear that
the conflict was with the WinFax add-in (ironically, another Symantec
product), and Symantec advised you to remove that instead.
