MS Visual Basic Help window doesn't display help on some topics

I have Access 2000 installed as part of Office 2000 Professional SP2 on my
home-built PC that is running Windows 2000. I am trying to program in VBA
and look up help on certain topics, and find I am frequently frustrated by
the help topic's text (not) appearing in the right hand side of the help
window. Certain topics will appear there, and certain topics never do, and
never have since the computer was built.

For example, I go to look up "database" in the Answer Wizard tab of the help
window. The first five topics listed are "CreateDatabase Method", "Databases
Collection", "Database Property", "Cataolg Object (ADOX)", and
"DestConnectStr, DestinationDB, DestinationTable Properties Example". I'd
love to read the help about the first three, but when I click on any of
those, or the 4th topic, nothing changes in the right hand side of the help
window--whatever was displaying there previously just stays there. Clicking
on the 5th topic brings up the promised help for that 5th topic.

When I type "recordset" in the lookup box, of the twenty topics to display
that are listed below, only two can take me to the promised help text when I
click on them. Clicking on the other 18 does nothing. When I type "query"
in the lookup box, 3 of the 20 topics lead nowhere, while the other 17 do.

I am building and programming Access databases and would very much
appreciate having access to all these help topics. I'm being blocked from
seeing help on most any advanced topic I'm interested in that pertains to
methods and to manipulating databases by code.

Now, I don't know whether this is relevant or not, but I'll mention it. Two
years ago, the friend who built my computer temporarily installed his own
copy of Office on the computer--just a bare-bones installation. He hadn't
even installed VB Help files. When I received the computer, I did a
customized install of my legit copy of Office Professional, including
everything pertaining to VB and Access that I could see. But even then, two
years ago, a subset of my help topics would not display, and nothing has
changed since. I've de-installed and re-installed my copy of Office twice,
including using the Office Eraser program as supplied by Microsoft, but to no
avail. The second time, I even tried deleting the Haettenschweiller font, on
a tip from a friend, and custom installed just about everything except clip
art and eruo converters. Still no help of the subset of help topics.

Is this an installation problem, or some other issue? Any idea how it can
be solved? Many thanks for anyone's thoughts.

Did you ever get any help on this? I have exactly the same symptoms and our
IT department has not been able to fix it. I also have little boxes with a
dot in them where the hyperlinks should be. My computer is standard IBM so I
don't think it has anything to do with the hardware. I have similar problems
in Word and Excel as well.

Hi, HJohnson919,

No, I never received any response to this, and the problem is still there,
just as before. I asked my friend who build my computer and who had
installed the earlier version of Office if he had any ideas, and he suggested
things that I'd tried already. I think the only solution might be for me to
wipe the hard drive clean and start over, or decide it's time for a new
computer (or an old used one that I can simply install the Access Help on).

MY sort-of-solution has been to buy two $50 tomes on Access VBA programming,
which have helped me through my questions. It would sure be conveient to see
the very help files that I used to originally learn the material, though.

EXACTLY the same problem here, and it's really p*****g me off.

It's getting to the point where we'll be ditching M$ software for Java.
If there's no API documentation, then it's pointless sticking with M$.

Nothing I can see on the Knowledgebase, either.
