You might want to rule out program corruption as a possibility. There are
spyware programs that can download into your system, and overwrite all or
certain files. There was no mention of whether or not a full viral scan was
run. You might need to troubleshoot in the area of saving changes and
modifications, while this is connected to the shutdown process. If you have
the time, run a Thorough-Scan Disk, not Standard. I know it takes all
eternity, but in Scan Disk settings, add a checkmark to "Create a log". Scan
Disk will save detail of the entire process, and error details. Even if you
select "correct any errors if found", it doesn't always happen. This would
create a record. This might prove helpful, should you consider hiring a
professional to correct the problem. Either way, this can get serious enough
spread into other system conflicts. There are so many other things that
could be wrong, but don't take too long on this one. This would be a good
time to save, and back up all valuable documents to scanned and removable
storage.
