MS Word 2000-won't open

I have the same problem as Matt, who explained that Word
2000 will not open. You get the timer icon, then it just
sits there and does absolutely nothing. It has to be
manually shut down. Any disks with Word docs won't open
either. I have also tried to reload the program, but to
no avail. Any suggestions or quick fixes?
