MS Word 2000

I am running Windows 98, Word 2000 - I get an error
message, "system resources are low (something similar), do
you want to shut down this application." With all
applications shut down, my system information states that
78% of resources are free. However, when I attempt to open
Word from my desktop, it hangs up and the above message is
displayed. I have uninstalled and installed Word but the
applications still will not open.

I would appreciate any assistance you provide to resolve
this issue.
