MS Word 2001

I have just upgraded to OS X Tiger. My Word program started taking
much longer to load, then it stopped loading altogether. I have a MAC
G4 laptop and have been using MS Office, including Word, on it for
several years.

What is the problem? How can I correct it? I'll be happy to upgrade
to Office 2004 if it will solve my problem.

Thanks.

Upgrading an operating system "under" the applications installed on top of
it is always a "heroic" manoeuvre. Doing it to an operating system five
versions above the one an application was designed for, is "thrill seeking"
:)

Anything "could" be wrong, and I am afraid I can't even begin to guess what.

However, if you take an orderly approach to applying all the fixes we know
about, you might luck onto it.

See here for lots of tips: This whole article is a "procedure". For best
effect, apply all the steps in sequence:

http://word.mvps.org/Mac/TroubleshootingIndex.html

If all else fails, run the Office Remover Tool from your CD, then
re-install. A simple re-install will just make things worse: you must
remove first using the tool, then re-install.

Having re-installed, you MUST re-apply the service packs before you try to
run the software :)

Hope this helps

Word 2001 is probably fixable--but:

If you're considering the upgrade to Office 2004 anyhow--these next few
months is a good time to buy, as you will get both Office 2004 and then
Office 2008 for just an S&H fee. Having both should set you up for a
long time.

download the coupon for the small print.

Classic will not run under Leopard/10.5, so if you intend to go there
someday, you'll need to switch Office versions anyhow.

Strewth... Thanks Daiya, I am going blind as well as stupid :)

Actually, for Word 2001, see this link instead:
http://word.mvps.org/Mac/TroubleshootWord2001.html

Maybe consult both.

And for Office 2001, you might need to download the Remove Office tool
from the web, rather than use the one on the CD.

I'm sorry! I emailed to you directly before I realized I'm supposed
to reply to the group.

I have rebuilt the OS 9 desktop (which I rarely use) and used the
downloaded "remove" program to delete the OS 9 Office app. I cannot
figure out how to rebuild the OS X Tiger desktop (PowerBook G4). Also
I assume I should DL another "remove" program from MS to delete OS X
Office before reinstalling (?)

Thanks for the help!

I removed the Office software and then reinstalled it. It worked. I
will now proceed to update it. Thanks again!
