MS Word 2002 crashes when inserting a symbol

When we attempt to insert a symbol in Microsft Word 2002 while using Windows
XP, Word crashes and gives us an error message.

Can you help provide a fix?

This could indicate a missing or damaged printer driver. Try deleting the
printer and then reinstalling it, preferably using an updated driver from
the manufacturer's Web site. Make sure the driver is installed locally.

I have the same problem--I tried reinstalling my printer drivers but it still
stalls out when I try to insert a symbol. Any other advice?

go to www.officeupdate.microsoft.com and update your bad self. it just
worked for me.

hooray!

although it's a little annoying that I had to dig up my old MSOffice 2002
discs...
