MS Word 2002 formatting problem

I'm creating a new doc - every time I type a colon,
period or slash, the cursor moves and the word
scrambles. For example "Other:" becomes ":therO"
I have checked formatting, styles, you name it and even
tried creating a new doc and still the same problem. This
is new just today, so I'm frustrated. Please help!

Hi Susan

This is just a guess, but I wonder if you have enabled (or allowed Word to
auto-detect) a right-to-left language. With your cursor in the mirrored
word, have a look in Tools > Language > Set language.

If you do see something odd here, you may be able to get more help from the
microsoft.public.word.international.features.

Sounds as if some practical joker has made these symbols the hotkeys for
some impish macros.
