MS Word 2004, Selecting graphic and text for grouping

MS Office (Student & Teacher edition) 2004, OS 10.3.7.
When wanting to make a letterhead, following the instructions from the
Letterhead sample document under the Learning tab in the Project
Gallery, I cannot select both the inserted (.png) graphic and the text
box to group them. Other than using the "shift" key, I've tried about
every combination of keys, but only one element will be selected,
either the graphic or the text. Any hints as to what I am doing wrong
here?
Thank you for your help.

Hmmm...I don't have any trouble selecting both by holding the shift key.
Doesn't seem to matter which I select first.

Are you single-clicking on the second element? Have you tried selecting
the text box first, then the graphic (both ways work fine here)?

Thanks for your help! I found it .... it turns out that I had to go
back to basics and read about floating graphics, i.e. first change the
wrapping style under the "Format Picture" pane in the formatting
palette. After I do that, I can select however many elements I want. I
had never used pictures in Word and just discovered how a word
processor works differently from PowerPoint ....
