MS Word 2007/ Shut down problem

S

srfoot

When I close Word a pop-up window appears stating that word shut down and it
is looking for a solution. When it stops and I close the window it shuts
down.
I don't know what is causing this.
Any help would be appreciated.

I am getting the same problem - I can't open my docs from the desktop - only
if I open word > open > doc. Then everytime I try to close word 2007 I get
an error message telling me: Microsoft Office Word has stopped working A
problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the
program and notify you if a solution is available.

1. I've tried deleting Normal.dotm, but when I run regedit I don't even
have that file for some reason!

2. I've tried deleting the data key in the word registry
(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word), but I also do not
have that.

3. I wanted to disable some add-ins, but I can't scroll the menu to even
get to add-ins.

This problem is killing me! Can someone please help?

Thank you.

Normal.dotm is not part of the registry. It's in the trusted templates
folder. It would be easier to tell you where to find it if I knew which
version of Windows you're running. Note that it might be a hidden/system
file, and you would need to tell Windows Explorer to show those files. In
Vista, it's usually here:

C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates

If you're running Word 2007, you have to have the data key. With ...Word at
the left, the Data key will also be listed on the left, indented a little to
the right of Word itself when you open the Word branch of the tree. So,
technically, the Data key is here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Data

I.e., when you click on Word, don't look for Data at the right. Expand Word
and look for Data under Word, in the left side of the Regedit window.
