I am getting the same problem - I can't open my docs from the desktop -
only
if I open word > open > doc. Then everytime I try to close word 2007 I
get
an error message telling me: Microsoft Office Word has stopped working A
problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close
the
program and notify you if a solution is available.
1. I've tried deleting Normal.dotm, but when I run regedit I don't even
have that file for some reason!
2. I've tried deleting the data key in the word registry
(HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word), but I also do not
have that.
3. I wanted to disable some add-ins, but I can't scroll the menu to even
get to add-ins.
This problem is killing me! Can someone please help?
Thank you.

And, as a general principle, deleting either the Data key or
Normal.dot[m]
solves 95% of all such problems.

Try working through the troubleshooting steps at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ProblemsStartingWord.htm and see if
any of them help. Issues that can prevent Word from starting properly
can
also prevent Word from closing properly.

When I close Word a pop-up window appears stating that word shut down

it is looking for a solution. When it stops and I close the window it
shuts down.
I don't know what is causing this.
Any help would be appreciated.
