MS Word Bug... maybe

C

captzerf

When I highlight any amount of text in word and then click delete it
doesn't delete the text, it just un highlights the text, but if I hit
backspace it does, either that it is the other way around. The
problem also exists if I highlight any amount of text and type again.
It should automatically delete the highlighted text, but what it does
is move to the end of the highlighted text and just starts there.
Someone told me that they thought it was an option that I could
change, but I haven't found an option like that yet. So if anyone
knows if it is a bug or an option I'd be thankful for any help.

Thanks,

Captain

In Word, click on Tools | Options | General tab | uncheck the two boxes
for WordPerfect help and navigation | Edit tab | check the "Typing
replaces selection" box | OK.

You didn't say what version of Word you're using but...

but if I hit
backspace it does, either that it is the other way around.

I can't reproduce this behavior.

Something like this can happen if you have "Typing replaces
selection" turned off:

Tools > Options > Edit > [] Typing replaces selection.

However when that option is turned off, the new text is
inserted at the beginning of the selection, not at the end
so I'm not sure exactly what's happening with your setup.
