I just inserted a comma after a correctly spelled word ("stellata", as
in Magnolia stellata) and noticed that Word changed the word to
"stellate". The only reason I noticed this is because I had tracking
turned on. If I hadn't had tracked changes showing, I would not have
noticed this sly change and would have ended up looking like an idiot to
my client.
What arcane setting do I have to change to stop this from happening
again? Note that "stellata/e" is not listed in Autocorrect, and stellata
is not in the user dictionary. And why did Word change the spelling
simply because I inserted a comma after an existing word?
