ms word file conversion problem

I have many ms word documents that i can not open it!
Befor i used ms word 2000 to make the document, but few
months later i can not opened that documents, though i use
ms word xp or word 2000 to open it. By displaying a
message:
File Conversion
Select the encoding that make your document readable.
Text encoding:
Windows(Default) MS Dos Other ecoding:

..
..
..
After i selected Windows(default) the document is
displayed unreadable code.

please help.....

That sounds like a virus has gotten on your computer. Do you have
anti-virus software and is it up to date? Here is one example,

And there are several dozen more. Most of them completely ruin the files
so I hope you have a backup copy of your important files.
