MS Word For Windows Has Encountered A Problem

Attempt to open MS Word and receive "Microsoft Word For Windows Has
Encountered A Problem."

Attempted to comply with Q326510 and 286839...no help.

Please advise.

Attempted Q326510, 286839, 5 page directions titled Problems opening Word.
One suggestion was to locate "Normal.dot file, and change. Search does not
locate such title. I am working with AOL 9.0, Windows SP2 XP.
"winword.exe /a" fixes it for one Word 2000 access. After that receive the
identical message.

Boy, you don't believe in wasting any words, do you? Are you posting from a
BlackBerry? In order to find Normal.dot, you must explicitly tell Word to
include hidden and system files in the search since Normal.dot is in a
hidden folder under Windows XP.

Suzanne meant to say tell WINDOWS to search for hidden files and folders in
order to find normal.dot. But also make sure you don't have the Hide File
Extensions of Know File Types enabled either.

I went to Search>Search hidden files and folders. Located Normal.dot and
changed name. Corrected problem entirely. Thank you for the assistance.
