MS Word has encountered a problem

I am running MS OFFice Pro 2000 on Windows XP Pro.

All the sudden I can't open Word anymore. All the other
Office programs work fine.
When I try to open Word, I receive the
message: "Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a
problem and needs to close..."

I already tried the repair function on the cd, tried
uninstalling and re-installing it, cleaning with regedit,
etc. .. it still will not open.

Does anyone have a suggestion how I can restore
functionality to MS WOrd?

when I click on the error report, it displays:
