MS Word menus?

I suddenly find that my MS Word (2001 Office-Mac)will not
show anything but the menu headings across the top of the
screem. None of the drop down menus, except for the Fonts
works.

The menus work fine for Excel, Entourage, and Powerpoint,
but not for Word. Tried new install of Office and a new
System. Word was workingperfectly up to today. No new
applications installed. Doe not appear to be any extensions
conflict as the same thing happens with a basic OS 9.2.

Any ideas will be appreciated.
