ms word preferences/compatibility/mac G5

amy

hi there...I"ve had tons of problems running Word X for Macintosh on my
G5...lots of errors saying my file names are too long (when they're one
letter), not allowing me to drag or save documents in different folders
and getting error messages saying "missing data" (when saving it a few
times over again sometimes fixes it) and so on...
i checked the preferences box and i realized that it had been checked
for WordPerfect 6 for windows, but there was only one mac option:
5.x....
is this correct, or is there a custom setting for the G5 that someone
could tell me about? Does anyone recognize these problem?
thanks so much...our office productivity has been dramatically
decreased because of these issues.....

Hi Amy,

The fact that you're on a G5 is irrelevant; it's your versions of the Apple
OS and Office that count. What are they, including your update level for
Office/Word?

Are you saying that when you go to Word X's Preferences> Compatibility and
click on the "Recommended options for" popup, you do not see an option for
"Microsoft Word 2000-2004 and X"??

If that's the case, and considering all the other problems you seem to be
having, I would guess that something is wrong with your installation. You
could try renaming preferences and the Normal template first and if neither
works, I would recommend a complete removal (don't neglect this step) and
reinstallation. You will find step-by-step instructions for all of these
procedures here: <http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/TroubleshootingIndex.htm>
(If using Safari, hit Refresh once or twice; or use another browser for this
site.) Yell if you need more help.
