MS Word Problem: won't load or work; locks up

B

B Curtis

I've got the same problem described by Terri Schifrin.
Attempts to start MS Word2000 from the desktop or Windows
Explorer seems to start the program load, but it never
actually loads and the hourglass never goes away. The
computer locks up and repeated attempts to bring up the
task manager fails. Eventually an error like "resources
dangerously low, recommend terminating Winword" and reboot
is the only solution. No other program problems. Have
reloaded Word2000 and even all the entire MS Works Suite
to no avail. Norton AV running w/ current definitions
says my computer's clean. Please e-mail me your response
at (e-mail address removed)

Thanks

See http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/ProbsOpeningWord.htm. And if
you're running Word freestanding (not starting it from the Works Task
Launcher), uninstall the Microsoft Works Suite Add-in for Word, which does
nothing but cause trouble.

That really isn't my problem. I just purchased the 2004 Microsoft Works Suite and loaded it up but it did not load up the Word program. I still have the old program (also a Word 2002) but it does not show up in the Task Launcher when I go into it. It seems to be running as a seperate program????? Also, every time I shut down my computer and then load it back up again it will always load up another printer in my task bar--which causes me problems when I go to print something. I have had as many as three printers of the same lind (copy 1, copy 2, copy 3) in the task bar. I have uninstalled and reloaded as per the manufacturers instructions each time but it does not make a difference. I don't want to leave my computer running all the time. What can I do to correct these two situations? A somewhat mildly frustrated preacher...Pastor Boomer

This is the dreaded Works Suite Add-in rearing its ugly head. Go to Control
Panel, Add/Remove programs and uninstall the Works Suite Add-in.
