MS Word slow to open and close application

When opening this application it takes an enormous amount
of time to open and then, an enormous amount of time to
close. This happens whether I write a small letter, no
letter, or any letter. Cannot think of why this occurs.
Can you spell out the mystery? It appears that I am not
alone with this problem. What's the scoop? It must not
be a simple one.

Please let us know the version of Windows and Word that you are using. Is
this a standalone computer or a networked computer. Are you opening Word or
opening a document selected whilst Word is closed?
