MS Word spell checks with French in tables

We are all Technical Writers-Editors using MS Word for Windows (Office 2003).
Some of my colleagues have a quirky problem: Word insists on using French to
spell check in their tables! This isn't happening with my installation of
Word, so I haven't been able to do much troubleshooting for them.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on correcting this? We work in
English, not French!

Hi =?Utf-8?B?Sm9obiBNLiBGaXNjaGVy?=,

You should start by reading the article on language formatting in Word in the
"Tips" section of my website. That describes how it works.

Why this would be happening only in the others' tables is difficult to guess at
this remove. I'd start by checking the style definitions used in the table, and
make sure to also check the definition of the styles on which they base. If I
had to place a bet, given that you're tech writers, I'd look at the "Normal"
style, first...
