MS Word Stopped working error message

I have been using Vista for a while and having no problems. Suddenly I
cannot use Microsoft Office Word 2007 --- when I try to open a document I get
a message that Microsoft Office Word has stopped working. I can't figure out
what caused this or how to fix it. Has anyone fixed this problem before?
